In 1692 the pretty Scottish village of Glencoe was the site of a murderous treachery — members of Clan McDonald were massacred in their beds by soldiers from the Campbell clan, who had spent the night as their guests. More than 300 years later I came across a painting of the massacre hanging in a Glasgow museum. Two elderly Scottish gentlemen stood nearby muttering, “Still can’t trust them Campbells.”
