Thanks for the note back, Jeff. I’m enjoying a cup of coffee right now! I appreciate the parallel definitions of freedom — both made possible by obligation to a higher power. I think the place where some people go wrong is thinking political freedom has anything to do with freedom in Christ.

In my reading, Paul’s words to the Romans seem to say just the opposite:

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
