Yeah, it was a different time and different politics. I suppose when half the country's actively trying to kill the other half it factors into the calculus. Jackson was an anti-succession Democrat from Tennessee, which General Grant had already defeated and brought back into the Union. So I suppose Lincoln was already thinking about the future and healing the nation. He might have been useful to have around if Lincoln hadn't been assisinated.
